23 Food Trucks Roll into Pier 86 For a Night of Street Meat Debauchery
New York, NY – The Intrepid Sea Air & Space Museum at Pier 86 played host to the most EPIC of block parties, the 3rd Annual Village Voice Choice Streets, featuring a roster of 20+ Food Trucks. Veterans like Uncle Gussy’s, Big D’s, Comme Ci Comme Ca, Nuchas, and Coolhaus stood next to new kids on the block MSG, Taipan Fusion, Luzzo’s, Shanghai Sogo, Sweet Chili, and Mamak & Lucky.
A new more efficient Passport system marked each tasting with a hole punch, ensuring no double-dipping, so although crowded, the lines were relatively short. Refreshments were provided by ShockTop and Four Roses Bourbon, and ensured attendees wined and dined to their bellies’ content. Our favorites of the night included MSG‘s Taiwanese Basil Chicken, Big D’s spicy, but flavorful Thai Green Curry, Mamak & Lucky‘s delicious Rendang Chicken with Pandanus infused Coconut Jasmine, and Shanghai Sogo‘s Pork and Chive dumpling with their insanely incredible dipping sauce.
Taipan Fusion and Mike and Willies were the first to sell out, but I heard from attendees that both were worth the wait. Souvlaki GR had the best set up of the event, with their signature (brick and mortar) lights dangled romantically above a table and chairs, and Uncle Gussy’s owner Nick was all smiles even though their lines were one of the longest of the night. Coolhaus hooked up dessert with their forever-awesome ice cream sammies, and Kelvin Slush provided the adult version of their delicious and refreshing slushies – and they were right on point.
